January 25, 2010 The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public
and Private Employees has donated $15,000 to the Haiti Relief Fund. NAPE
is giving the money to Oxfam Canada to help in efforts to support the
people of Haiti. NAPE President Carol Furlong said, "the $15,000 from
NAPE is in addition to $25,000 donated by our National Union, all of
which will be matched by the federal government. NAPE is encouraging its
members to contribute in any way they can to show solidarity to the
people of Haitian communities. (MORE)
December 21, 2009 On Tuesday, December 22, 2009, NAPE President
Carol Furlong will travel to Marystown to present cheques to striking
members with the Burin-Marystown Community Training & Employment Board.
According to Furlong, “The money was donated by a number of NAPE Locals
as a means of extending some Christmas goodwill and expressing their
support for their fellow union members. Other unions and a couple of
workplaces have also made donations.” (MORE)
December 15, 2009 NAPE members employed as outside workers by the
Town of Springdale have voted to accept a new three-year collective
agreement. The agreement, which comes into effect on January 1, 2010,
provides a $1.00-an-hour increase for each of the three years. It also
includes additional salary increases for several classifications and
improvements in the protective clothing allowance. (MORE)

25, 2009 NAPE has won a vote against the Association of Allied
Health Professionals to represent 261 health professionals employed with
the Central Regional Health Authority. The vote resulted from an
application by Central Health for a single bargaining unit for health
professionals, who were represented by two unions. (MORE)

24, 2009 After nearly a year of trying to negotiate a new collective
agreement, 14 employees of the Burin-Marystown Community Training and
Employment Board, who provide support to persons with disabilities, are
going on strike. According to NAPE President Carol Furlong, the workers
have been left with no other choice and will set up picket lines this
coming Friday, November 27. (MORE)
October 27 2009 At 2 p.m. today, NAPE representatives will meet with
the Hon. Clyde Jackman, MHA for Burin-Placentia West, to seek support
for unionized employees of the Burin-Marystown Community Training and
Employment Board, who have been without a contract since March 31, 2008. (MORE)

Two Max Dyke Scholarships ($1,000 each) awarded on the
basis of a 1,500-word research paper.
One Emmanual Strickland Scholarship ($1,500) awarded to
the applicant attaining the highest academic achievement according
to provincial government scholarship scores.
Fifteen Regional Scholarships ($500 each) also awarded on the basis

October 19, 2009 The leadership of
the five Public Sector Unions involved with the Pay Equity Ex-Gratia
award are taking steps towards arranging the final payout in accordance
with the direction of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.

initiation of a planned response to an emergency without undue delays
and restrictions and will assist in ensuring the health, safety and
